Stewarts and creators or bean counters and geeks

Here's an interesting paper on the tension between management and innovators in commercial organisations. There's a nice quote from Bob Taylor, who points out how frustrated he gets with people who enthuse about how the Net has changed the world overnight. Taylor explains the Net had been around forever and the reason it took so long to become widely useful is that the 'stewards'/bean counters/business folks looking for a product to exploit for short term profit got in the way. There's a nice half hour discussion of the this ubiquitous management v engineers tension here, facilitated by one of the authors of the paper.
